wear 'em out

When I lived in London, I looked all over for environmentally-friendly shoes. The Worn Again range by Terra Plana stood out. As much for their environmental practices, as the detailing and design of their shoes. Overall the company utilises chrome free leathers, vegetable tanned leathers, pure latex soling materials, recycled rubber soles and recycled foam foot beds. Their Worn Again shoes take it to another level, made from recycled materials that were otherwise destined for a less beautiful result. The ingredients label on each product will tell you what "rubbish" (as they put it) the footwear contains, such as: old car seat leather, seatbelts, bicycle tyres, parachute silk or tweed jackets. Further, to reduce unnecessary transportation, Terra Plana try to gather such materials close to where the shoes are made, as well as making a donation to offset carbon emissions. Lastly, they choose factories that have professional codes of conduct and regular audits. All this, and they still manage to make good-looking shoes!
